Bruce Stuart Roberts was born on February 4, 1930 in Mount Vernon, N.Y. He graduated from New York University in 1951 and attended the University of Florida in 1954. During the Korean War, Roberts served in the United States Air Force (1951-53). In 1957, he married writer Nancy Correll (b. 1924). In 1921, William LeGette Blythe, native of Huntersville, N.C., graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he had been a member of the original Carolina Playmakers and a classmate of Thomas Wolfe.
